I'm proud that I am Rosses born, This is my native place. These heather hills have always been, The stronghold of our race. 1 Twas here our fathers fought the fight To keep the old faith still, As they knelt to worship God above At the Mass Rock on the hill. Our priests, like wolves, were hunted down, Oh God, 'twas surely hard, That from the right to worship Thee Thy children were debarred. But still they proudJ~ bore Thy Cross, And proudly bear it still, Whose perents shared Thy Calvary At the Mass Rock on the hill. No more on lonely Cleendra Hill The sentinel stands guard. Our ancient foes, the hated yeos, Have gone to their reward. And we who worship now in peace, And keep God's Holy Will, This year's Mary Festival will have many new attractions e.g. A Fleadh Gaelach and a Cei11 Mor, while local favourite Margo will again provide the entertainment at the Emigrant's Social. A community parade will take place on the first Sunday while on the second Sunday the ever-popular Carnival parade will take place. And finally - the big moment will take place in Oaten na Rosann on Sunday night August 2nd when some lucky girl will be crowned J.lary from Dungloe 1981. Who ~ · Give thanks to those who knelt beside, The Mass Rock on the hill. Sing all ye Islands off the coast, Along the Roases' shore. Sing of the day you knelt to pray, At the sign of a woman's shawl, When Mass was said on Cleendra Hill, In Cotmty Donegal. kno'YIS • •?
