HEALTH HAZARD Cuid Uiscc Lofa Ghaoth ~obr~ir In this modern societJ<· we have all becone used to such b~sic necess2.ties as electr2. city and running water. S 2nce the 50's nearly every house has had electricity installed and it's a cheap dependable sourse of energy that has revolutionised our lives. The days of the Telly Lamp and the candle are gone forever. Water plnys an equally important role in our lives. Going tc the nearest well for buckets of water you would think is also a thing of the past. The parish of Gaoth Dobhair is certainly wondering about that and asking if we 1 re going back to the old days. Old wells that have been lying dormant for years have recently been cleaned up and are back in use. The reason? The running water coming out of the taps for the last fe\1 month's is to say the least, filthy. I have heard it described as a "health hazard" and "not fit for pigs". Clean water is an absolute necess:ty and the situation existing- at the n:oment, with lunt:·S of nruck coming out of the pipes is disgraceful and-intolerable. The reason seemin§;ly is that the pipes carry~_ng the water from the reservoir at Loch Gaol, Crolly are co?pletely worn out and rusting. Ta s~ suimiul go ra2bh an fadhb ceanna ag pobal Rann ne. Even our T.D.'s and County Councillors have kept remarkably silent about the issue. We feel that a "Day of Action" is called for - a day when everybody, young and old would roll up their sle' ves and carry out a massive clean-up. Caide bhur dtuairim? 'llheilt!
