Burtonport With interest in Rowing as a sport steadily growing as was shown in Kincasslagh recently Eurtonport Rowing Club has made a comeback after being dormant for a number of years. Local fishermen have. been badly hit by the fuel shortage which has kept them at port for long periods. This is certainly one summer they will want to forget. • At the recent Guth 7 Tuairim sponsored disco dancing competition in the hall, where the standard of dancing was very high, Sean Morgan ran off worthy winner in the individual event. Also in the hall recently Olde Tyme dances provided great ~ntertainment for young and not so young. Singers included James Duggan, Paddy O'Donnell and a guest appearance by M. Gillespie. In a challenge match at the Banks, the single men defeated the married men 8-2. Man of the match was Colm Sharkey in goal for the single men. While in the Ladies football, Dublin won the trophy by defeating last year's winners, Derry in the final. Local drummer E. Gillespie recently made his debut with the Country Pride.Showband, who will appear in the Mtillaghduff hall in the near future. Work has commenced on the football field and running track in Braade. At home on holidays recently was Miss Alice Cowling from the U.S.A. Dunlewey Football Club hosted their annual sevens on Sunday 19th August and in spite of a rather mucky pitch after all the rain it was a great success. Well, Dunlewey A finally came good and they took the Cup back home by narrowly beating Glenea Utd. in a thrilling final. Judging by the size of it the community will have a school to be proud of when its completed next year contrary to the opinion of some "doubting Thomas's". At home on vacation in CarrickCoy\e is Mrs. Nellie Flaherty, wife of the formPr popular manager of the h.I.B. The Flaherty's are now resident in Tipperary. A donkey which died recently in Stramartin was believed by many to be the oldest animal of its .kind in Gweedore. A local historian ·would not commit himself to estimate the age of the ~imal but commented that "it must be as old as the hills". Many complaints have been heard recently about the state of the roads around Doire Beaga. Worst affected are so called minor roads e.g. Min an Iolair, Srath na Bruaigh and the road to the beach at Lunniagh. Councillor Coll has stated recently that "there is not a penny in Lifford for the repair of roads". tabhairne Ieo Locals are very annoyed at the state of the road on the Letterkenny side of Falcarragh where sewerage works have recently been completed. It is not uncommon to see people driving into the town on the right hand side of the road thus putting themselves and others in danger. We demand that this road be tarred immediately.
