KEADUE DISAPPOINT ·~ K3AJU3 ROV ~33 0 LI??ORD C~LTIC 2 In their last home league game of season '78 . , 1 79 the Keadue Rovers were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by Lifford Celtic. Although playing without five of their regular side the home team e xcept for a brief period in the second half never looked like winning the match. Keadue HOD the . toss and r layed with the stron;: wind ard dri.ving rain in their backs but despite the home side having this advantage it was Lifford who settled down quicker .:..nd almost scored twice in the first thirty minutes but .for two brilliant saves by the Rovers keeper F. Boyle, first di~ing bravely at the feet of Gettins then• pushing a fierce drive from Vocherty around the post. Despite playing against the strong wind Lifford continued to push forward but in a breakaway in the 35th minute Keadue scored what looked a good goal by D. Sweeney, but was disallowed by referee M. Curran for offside. r. · Forke r had a good effort punched over by the Celtic keeper. Half time 0-0. In the second half Keadue moved skipper H. Moy up to the front and put D. Bonner back in defence and in the first twenty minutes of this half they played their best football. They could have scored three goals in this period, good chances being missed by H. Moy and F. Gallac;her . G. Ward after a good run down the left side left 1'1qy fre.e in front . of goal but he miskicked and the chance was gone. Lifford opened the scoring in the 65th minute when Charlie Gettins took the ball down the lift wing, cut inside the defender and fired a great shot past P. Boyle. P. Gallagher had a good chance for Keadueminutes later but the ball bounced awkwardly and he failed to connect properly. Lifford got their second goal from the penalty spot when Lyuch was tripped ir1side the box. To many, this seemed a har sh decision as the striker appeared to tak e a dive but the Ref. was adamant and in1:.hie Docherty scored from the spot. That .C i nished the scoring neither side making any scoring chances after this. Lifford Celtic must be very happy with this result. They were well served by Gettins, Docherty and Lynch.
