Dungloe As predicted in last month's edition I am pleased to report that the Mary. Festival '82 is off the ground. At a recent traders ~eting which vas ably handled by Ms. Margaret O'Donnell and Donegal Man of the Year, Donal K. O'Boyle it was confirmed that this year's ennt would run from Sunday July 25 to August 1. The huge gathering alone, at such short notice was sufficient evidence to suggest that the traders wanted a festival and the only difficult question which remained unanswered was, 0 can we generate sufficient funds to cover ourselves in this ever increasing costly show 7•. The answer was to co11111 quickly and in~ parts ; (a) Contributions will be substantially incr eased and (b) one great house proprietor kindly suggested, or should I say offered to "keep" two of the' Mary' s for the duration of the Festival. I am certain that if this is followed through, other proprietors will follow suit and thereby reduce the projected expenditure by more than 10% or, put another way, sa-n over £2,000. No doubt the above will be put into practice and I am confident that with the same dedication and effort, we can all look forward to a festival week in which the high standards of the past will not aerely be maintained but surpassed. lo Cure ?? Recently I was sick and there was nothing any doctor could do for ~. The reason being that 'my sickness was due to people going on and on aDd on about the "gentle" ·Budget. I ask myself, "what the hell vas gentle about it 7~ And the answer, 0 it was no aore gentle than the one which brought down the GQvernment on Jan. 27". O.K. no V.A. T. on clothes, ectr but we will continue to Pa7 dearly in many other ways. Lord Mgror of the Rosses. As yet no nominations ban been handed in and there is great speculation that the out-going Lord Mayor wi-1 not be contesting this event. Rumour has it that he and his agent are seriously planning to reverse roles on this occasion. Both are remai.nillg tight-lipped about the affair and at the time of going to press the only col!llllent which we succeeded in getting was, • you can be assured that whatever decision we arrive at will be in the National Interest a. The spokespersOn added that there will certainly be no question of Yes, No and Yes again and furthermore ~ agreement reached will be aarked by more than. a handshake. Canon O'Caliaghan on Radio 1.
