Guth & Tuairim, Lúnasa 1980

Lit reacha 5 Dungloe, July, 1980. A Chara, I enjoy "Guth 7 Tuairim" and look forward to it every month but perhaps I could offer a bit of criticism. I find it annoying when reading an article to find bits of Irish in the middle of it. The Irish of today is so hard to read anyway that perhaps it would be an idea to have the paper all in English and I'm sure you would get a lot more readers. Le meas, "Regular Reader". Acres, Burtonport. .A Chara, I enjoyed the recent letters and articles in ''Guth 7 Tuairim" about Flute Bands. I think you would travel most of Ireland before you would find so many bands in such a small area. I agree with M. Gillespie that the late Faddy O'Donnell N.T. was the ·founder of school bands. Nowadays, the likes of Faddy Ferry in Keadue is doing excellent work in promoting the bands and it's a pity that the anonymous "Interested" writing i!l "Guth 7 Tuairim" should criticize him so harshly. As there is no comnunity centre in the Acres area it's good to see the young people taking an interest in bands and if we had more people like Mr. Ferry I feel there would be less hooliganism. All bands and band leaders in the Rosses, Gweedore, Doochary, Leitir, etc area deserve great credit. Mise le meas, Cathal Murray. M:ln Beannaid, 23ti Iti.n. A Chara, It \Jas reported recently in the daily press that Ian Paisley made a snide remark about Cardinal 0 Fiach. My answer to that would be, "You can take Paisley out of Ballymena but you cant take the 11 bally-meanness 11 out of Paisley. Mise le meas, # Seamas s. 0 DOnaill.
