Guth & Tuairim, Bealtaine 1982

Lit reacha Yorkshire, England 24til April '82. A chars, On a recent visit to ~ native Rosses I wondered if Annagry Chapel parishioners have to endure such disgraceful behaviour from a section in the gallery croud every Sunday. It shocked me to hear swearing, giggling and gossip, not to mention papers sailing through the air - in the House of God t Gone are the days when the Very Rev. James Me Glnley (R.I.P) would march youngsters by the ear up through the chapel to the front seat if' they so much as t•.-~itched. The shame and humiliation (and very sore ears) prevented few occurances of this nature. It would h01~ever be interesting to see how the good man would deal with this generation. In ~ opinion they wrnlld not get past the front door. Mise le meas, Rose Boyle. A chara, Dolre Beaga, 2/5/' 82. My two children went to a local cinema last night looking forward to seeing the film nzorro", which was the main feature and came home very disappointed because only the second film - "Cannonball Run" was shown. I realize they also show a late movie on Sat. but they should either start earlier or not charge the f1lll rate which they did. I also went to the same cinema on a number of occasions to discover that parts of the filmo were cut. S.1lrely there must be a law against this as the public are not getting full value for their money ? b. chairt.le, Mise le meas, F. Me Gee. Kno1•ing little, as usual you probably regard it as a weed, but let me speak in i'!;' s dllfense an<i put. the record stra.l.ght. Our ren01med poet Paddy Kavanagh recogni sed the superior attitude of the Irish galoot when he p L tyingly wrote o~· the dande:!.lon : "5howing it's unl:>ved heart to everyone" . If it was regarded as an exotic expensive i.mport from Argentina coloured in blue and white stripes you people would probably have L t in your hulls, bedrooms as well as adorning your footballers. Our forefathers recognised the value of the danrlelion when they not alone appredated it's unsu:L')>assed beauty and deep rich colour but the intricate delicacy of its seeds . They also used it as a cure fo~; warts. There are still lots of warts in Guoth Dobhair that crn1ld be P-liminuted by it ~ To w:i.ths7.and this malicious attack against our beloved plant, we, it's admirers are holding a meeting ne:xt S-unday in t he Ocean View !-!otel, Meenagopog. Hise le meas, r--------- Rann na Feirste, anagaire, 4/5/'82. An Eargail. A chara, Could I use some space in your excellent paper to reflect on the high cost of entertainment in this area• Mos~ people don 1 t seem to realize that the cost of a "night out" has rocketed out of control in the last number of years • Take a man and his wife (or girlfriend) who decide to go out for a Sunday evening. They go to their local pub where 2 drinks e.g. a pint and a Vodka and White sets them back £2. It they haVe 5 or 6 drinks they have spent about £12. They might buy 20 cigarettes which are now well over £1. After the pub closes they decide to go to a dance which between them costs another £5 or £6 for drinks. Afterward the wife is feeling hungry s~ 2 chicken suppers later, that 1 s another £2 or £) gone. Add to this the cost or petrol wear and tear on the car and perhaps a few pounds for a bab.ysi~ter and your night out can be an expensive one indeed. It can cost over £)0 to be exact. I know for a fact that in England you could have a good night tor half that amount. _ . '"ta'me ag deanamh go mbeidh na h-o!cheanta! airneall arais gan mhoill. Bhesdh siad ni'os saoire t Mise le meas, ttPOc&! Folamhatt.
