The installation is a compact site consisting of a Dam and intake at Lough Derk, at m. gallon Reservoir, Settling-Tank, Fitters and a Treatment building which controls the whole operation. Built at a cost of approximately £t million, the Head-Works has already been supplying the Portnoo - Ardara district since the Summer. However, residents north of the Gweebarra feel that they have been badly let down. The mains– pipe crossed the Bridge early this year but came to an abrupt halt 200 yards on. A massive group-scheme was to lay the 20 mile network of pipe which would carry the water to the 300 or so householders in the area. It is only now that work is commencing on this section and it is felt that it will be at least early 1985 before "Kilcrin 1 s" white elephant will be able to supply water to the people of Leitir. · Work in progress on the construction of the Leitir water scheme.
