The Editor. "What!s that on the road below us?" "Well, If they're moving they're cows - It they're not they're SES workers." WHY CIGARETTE SMOKING SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED DURING GESTATION Women who smoke tend to have smaller babies than those who don't, and it is thought that smoking during the sixteenth week could cause mental and physical retardation during later childhood. Although smoking less than ten cigarettes a day might do little harm to the foetus, it is prob– able that smoking causes lung cancer and other diseases and gestation is as good a time as any to stop. Some women discover a dislike of ciga– rettes to be one of the earlier symptoms of ges– tation, being often associated with nausea and morning sickness. Excessive smoking can cause premature births and also cause your child to be later than usual in learning to walk, talk and read, and who wants that? 2 cf!etler6 lo fhe {!Jilor Long Lane, Letterkenny. A Chara, I must agree with the reader in last month's "leader who was on about the Letterkenny Fes– tival. It was a disaster from the entertainment point of view. I don't drink and what was there for us non-drinkers ? Nothing ! There should have been concerts and people singing in the streets, like other festivals. I say get rid of the old committee and their old-fashioned ideas ! Keep up the good work, the "leader" is great. Yours, M. The Editor, Iwould agree that the Festival was a big disappointment this year, however, Iwouldn't blame the committee entirely. They definitely need fresh ideas and fresh faces but isn't it up to the people of Letterkenny to turn up at their meetings and get involved. From my own experience these things are always left to a few people, and while their successes are applauded, their failures are usually very badly criticized. So come on all you folks out there, get stuck in and make the Festival 21st the biggest and the best ever. Twins Paul and Charlene Duddy live in Knocknashinna, Letterkenny and were 3 years in September. They were ready to go to Playschool in Slieve Snacht when I took this photograph and Charlene said she liked going to school, while Paul wasn't all that keen, which just goes to show that twins are often very different from each other. r "" ..-r.. ~ - .~ ~ l l I - • lti,l!/$0 Letterkenny Meet Tommy Keys, Ballyraine, Letterkenny, and his 1961 Morris Mi~or 1000.
