As the tender splut– tered tis way to the incident concerned it broke down after only travelling half a mile. The crew immediately sprang to action and pushed and shoved until a few locals stopped and offered their help. What made it more embarrassing was that people were returning from Mass in the local church at the time. The firemen had no choice but to hitch lifts from passing traffic. Each man took some equipment in his hand and made good towards the fire leaving the stricken tender .------------------------.behind. Thefire was completely under control when they ar– rived at the scene some miles away.
