Sweeney from Falcarragh recent– ly won the lntervarsity heavyweight boxing championship. Denis who is a son of Ann Swee– ney Drapery, Falcarragh, is a final year Com– merce student at U.C.D. He is also a keen oarsman and rowed for U.C.D. at the Royal Hen– ley Regatta. Clubs Falcarragh Cubs and Scouts held a suc– cessful Fashion show in McFadden's Hotel, Gor– tahork on March 2nd, the group would like to thank most sincerely all those who supported the event or contributed in any way to its suc– cess. Band Competition Falcarragh was the venue, for the opening round of the County Donegal Marching bands competitions, which were held on Easter Sun– day in Falcarragh. Sixteen bands took part in the competition which was held outside St. Fionan's Hall, the adjudicator was George Holbourn. The results were as follows: beginners' 1st Manor-· ' cunningham; 2nd Milford. Accordian 1stMurlog; 2nd Emerald Band, 3rd Convoy Band. Mixed section 1st Cloughaneely; 2nd Twin Towns, Flute section, winner Rann Na Feirsde. The prizeswere presented byAndy O'Loughlin of the Allied Irish Bank in Falcarragh. S.E.S. Scheme Windsurfing A Social Employment Scheme has been approved to further develop Ballyconnell Estate in Falcarragh. The scheme which is being spon– sored by Udaras na Gaeltachta, should go a long way towards the development of the estate, part of which was the former Olphert residence. Machaire Rabhartalwill be the venue for a weekend of windsurfing on Saturday and Sun– day, April 15th and 16th, when up to 50 windsur– fers from all over the Country are expected to converge on Machaire Rabhartai, where there will be wave and slalom events which will form part of a wide and varied programme of events. Historical Society New Magazine The Ballina Estate Residents Association are publishing a monthly news magazine en– titled 'Nuacht Baile An Atha'. The publication, which is free to residents, carries news concern– ing the housing estate and events happening there.
