,"RALLY TUATED FAMILY HOTEL · Excellent' - : Food & Accomodation parties --·functons Phone DUNGLOE 186 Parade/Compet iti on, which was Kau~•,.•u by Mayor Hanlon, with the assistance of a few, was a big success. The finance which is so necessary to stage such an event was made available by ~ of the local traders who must have subscribed generously. I understand that those who didn't subscribe did so on "principle" and were among those whose doors remained shut during the proceedings. The recent Fine Gael cake sale which was opened b,y Antoin Gateau of Bridgend Sales Ltd. was a tremendous success. Never, have I witnessed the variety and amount of goodies which were on display - there was everything from small "Elizabeth" cakes to big WHITE iced cakes. Just before the sale got under way a few extra's from Gweedore were thrown in. Among this lot, there were big GREEN Iced cakes which were labelled and described as 11 McGinley Cakes". It is understood that such was the financial success of this venture that F.F. have plans for a similar sale before the election. At this event we can expect "Cope" spounges with 11 Delap" rolls and fillings. The venue for same is likely to be Ostan na Rosann where there will be "Senator" Pies. A local charitable organisation, naturally always interested in new methods of fUnd-raising, has come up with a novel idea. The idea is that on receipt of 50p, competitors are given an opportunity to guess the date of the Election (General). The competition however is not open to all; members of the Oireachtas, County Councillors or their known supports are not permitted to have a guess. In the event of two or more persons forecasting the correct date, their names will be drawn from a hat and the lucky winner, who will be informed immediately after the "Count" will receive his 50p back together with a voucher for an all-in two week holiday in Inishane. These days everybody seems to be interested in raising funds, and let me assure you that the causes are all good ones. The most recent information I have is that a local football club has plans to bring back local players of the mid 50 1 s to field out against the local 1 81 side during the "Mary" Fistival. To date, plans are not at an advanced stage but we understand that the following have indicated their willingness to dawn a Jersey- E. 0 1 Donnell, o. Boyle, P. Boyle, G. Campbell, c. Boyle, H. McGee, P. O'Donnell, F. White, D. Bonner alld E. Bonner. The efforts of most of us who spent the winter Wednesday nights at the Irish Dancing classes in Meenacross were rewarded at a recent competition held in Glassagh (Gweedore). For the majority of local competitors there were medals and for ~fargaret Reilly and cousin Paddy O'Donnell there was the Perpetual Old-Time Waltzing Trophy. . In the early hours of Sunday last as one of the local mini-buses returning from St. Domenick 1 s was slowly wi ding its way around the Gweebarra turns, the passengers, most of whom were dozing off- were rudely awakened by a loud scream from the driver's seat. No, the driver hadn't seen something unusual on the road - he saw in fact, right beside him a tall figure who was smoking a pipe and in one hand carried a can which smelled of petrol and in the other a Zip firelighter together wi th a bundle of what looked like printed documents. Naturally, there was panic as the "Visitor" announced that thi s was. no joke and demanded that he be driven to Carrickfi n. The driver was quick to reply that his request would be carried out provided they had sufficient fuel. For the remainder of the journey <t hour) which seemed like days, the young dancers cuddled up in their seats and prayed that they would safely reach Carrickfin. On arrival, the visi tor demanded that a meeting be set up between himself and the Editor cf "Guth 7 Tuai r i m", otherwise he would ·.·',.f.:/ ·'An Ardaf Bheag agus an Mhfn Charraig 3 I ndiaidh cupla seachtain na Cases a chaitheadh ins an cheantar thug slua na micleinn aghaidh ar Chul Raithne arfs. I think~~ he should forget about bull-fighting, his brother John~~ tried it a few years back with a donkey but the donkey kicked him and broke his nose. There was a big waltzing competition held in the local at Easter. The toe-rag and his wife were the winners and the Big-Yin and Frances Gallagher were runners-up. Francie Tick says the Big Yin can' t dance so good since he broke the toe. Well known cattle dealer Patsy McCrea got a raw deal in Falmore recently. He bought a calf that was lying in the byre but when the lorry came rounq to pick him up they discovered that the calf couldn't walk right. John Bonner says it reminded him of the red dog. You can 1 t trust the women! There was a big day in Glenties at McGonagle 1 s wedding. Paddy Glackin gave a few nice songs. Packie Gillespie went up to sing and fell off the stage on the way down. He says the stage wasn't big enough. Big Peter fell asleep at the table and toppled over cracking a few ribs although he had no drink taken - he had no sleep the night before. He says he was out in Letterkenny Hospital with Jenny. "The place the pipe was lighted the Zip and can of petrol in the centre of the bus.
