On connection with this case there was much amusing discussion as to whether the grant of 6d. a day was payable in the case of an Irish prisoner. Most of the official experts thought that it was only payable in Great Britain, and that the Irish rate was 4%d . a day, but the precedent being furnished the charge was passed .
