This year the holiday will be in the Ca~uchin Fat,ers' House at Ards, Co. Donegal. The Association would be very grateful if any groups, youth clubs, community associations or others would help us. \·le need transport during the holiday and of course we would be most grateful for any entertainment that can be provided. The Capuchin Fathers have been very good to us and if any other friends would make their help available it ~ould make this a memorable holiday for about 40 disabled people. Crucknageera man offers Industrial Estate for Olympic Games Welcome fellov pilgrimst We are in the middle of the penitent season and wondering how on earth we ~ai survive untH St. Patrick's Day. Yet, times are much easier than they used to be. In t he not tc distant past Lent was a time of nruch fasting and abstinence. Dances were strictly forbi dden and only the bold ones ventured to Maggie Neil' s in Burtonport. Marriages vere unheard of and when t hey ac t ::.a 11;; happened they vere unheard of and at all times only an emergency measure. Most of us stop smoking for Lent, but it is not easy. The fjrst day is deceptive. It i s 1.1.:Q easy. You feel as if you could give Eamonn Coughlin a run for the 1500 metres. The secone day is a diffe r ent. kettle of fish and by midday you feel like a cross between Frankenstein and the Coward of t he County. Your head is like a balloon, your eyes burn and your throat feels like the special super-hot pits of Hell that they keep for Minister's of Finance, Child Murderers and the like. But you survive the first couple of weeks (vell so did C.J.)against all the. odds. It is important at this stage to avoid what the old missionaries used to call "occasions of habit", i.e. stay away from wakes a;1c 1 sessions of all kinds. Well, some more of us stay ,away from booze and on the face of it, it seems eas~· en01.1;;:h. It is very important though to avoid going into pubs and to keep away from party's - and Y·~u l re as good as home and dry. St. Patrick's Day is of course a stumbling block and many men (and women?) met their Waterloo by drowning the Shamrock. Finally, a word of advice. If you make it to Easter Sunday without a sweet or a fag or a drink or vhatever, dont be too hard on yourself. Celebrate~ Buy Guth 7 Tuairim, the year old wizard. I. wonder is it' ~rue ~that they're going to Canonise Michael O'Y.ennedy? As Charlie said in the R.D.S. "It vasn't just a Feis saving exercise you know" •
