Guth & Tuairim, Iúil 1981

The Lower Rosses .. .)11, I am home safe and well after ·the Brixton riots. I was tracing the English Lady after she left l•Iilto-wn -with a dirty old man. But before she left she had a lot of sightseers the night before, including Josie, Peter, 1-lichael D., Francie and Bella. They couldn't believe her new boyfriend. After luring her man to Brixton something terrible happened to him. I'll tell you more next month. Poor Tully has a job going to the Bank every week after all Ann is winning at the bingo. The "wheel" hasn't called it an Accident Black Spot yet, but a number of cars nearly ended up in Keadue Lake recently coming from Burtonport. The slipway is not guarded by any barrier and you would think the road is going straight ahead. Election Specia· F.F's convention started like a football special. Branch members went to vote but when it came to the .Burtonport ;Jranch there was an uproar. Packin would not be allowed to vote and him chairman of the branch. Just imagine - Packin could not vote. Then Big Con -was overthro>m by Niall - and him in the party since 1925. David stayed away, he knew better. Packin,· Doe, Con and a number of other's left the convention. Election coming nearer and things are hotting up. Kitty and Agnes descended on Kincasslagh for a gate collection. It took the people there by surprise. Nora thought they rose fro~ the dead and she paid -with fear. I heard they got £100. Then came the posters. F.G. had them up quick and down the next day. Young HcCole put a poster of Pat in his windo>T just looking into Ward's house. Next day Garret was smiling across at Pat. Then polling day on the islands and David made with the box for Inisfree. 3 votes - lOO% turnout. Screaming started as they left the island. Then it -was on to Arranmore -where Tom's Car Ferry -was forgotten about. Election day on the mainland and Niall's wife took Keadue over -with Patrick ~mrray as clerk. Gorry was at Heenbanad. But the day started bad for some; Mary Hickey Bonner, Meenmore -was up at six in the morning to find her four -wheels flat. She -went to Hickey (the wheel) but he could not help. Gunner was alerted and made for the Brtdge garage and landed with a compressor. Acres was a busy place~ Agnes and Big Cathal inside, Packin outside who had by now gone over to Kelly. Then Ji~ Johnnie Rose, Q) 0 Q) Q ll.l Julia and Hugh (you won't forget the local man~. The rear guard consisted of Kitty, Condy, Vietnam Veteran ~ Packie the Hat, The Wee Barrel himself Houston taking out all sorts. As evening approached Mena -was tried six times. Cathal l•mrray and Eddie Bonner made a dash for her and Cathal arrived -with her and voted for her just before nine. Also before nine Tadie made an emergency landing at the rear of the school. He -was a bit shocked and Kitty came to his aid and voted for him. This didn't please cousing Joe who threatened to withdraw the taxi service on pension day. Then came the moment of truth~ Con had not voted and when he landed a passage was made to let him into the school. But guess vho hooked him in -. the bold Kitty. Hunt say's thats the first of the Bachelors and Spinsters. Results out, Pat won the o ~ battle. A great welcome at Ostan and guess who t' 5. welcomed him - Cathal l··mrray, F .G. Pat had no-one of Jg ~ his own to do the job. Then to add to speculation ~ ~ Cathal resigned from the Branch. Jim is said to have ~ ~ cried. Vll'. Winderful did wonderful work on election ~ ~ day~ ~~. Jim Peacock made a dash to Gveedore to try ~and calm Dr. Who. Now it's all over until the next time~ • ~ ..... !::: 3 / Ard Na gCeapaire TAKEAWAY : 10·30 am to 12·00pm Fresh Fish available DUNGLOE To the many people who wrote to the Editor expressing regret that the June issue carried 'no news' from the Kerryman, I offer together with my thanks my sincere apologies. The. simple fact was that I bec~~e fru_strated with the goings-on from the day Charlie went to the park that I decided to take a holiday - Outside the country. However I arrived back i n time to cast my vote with Shaun He Glynn. On the Jf the count nobody seemed in the slighest interesteu .!l Nati National trends or other constituency r esults as the race progressed for the 3rd seat in Donegal South "vlest. At 7.15 after a long day Pat "the Cope Gallagher was declared elected however. This heralded a time of ' great rejoicing in Dungloe and for the next few weeks the "Cope mobile" would be very busy indeed. I have unconfirmed reports that the Gola Ballot Box which vas reported missing has been located, and that the overall figures will not be re-adjusted as the total votes cast were not in favour of any of the five candidates. Well, it's nearly "Nary" time again and the to-wn is preparing itself for -what promises to be a really great festival. I am personally looking forward to all those beautiful Hary' s. The to-wn will of course be represented by Christine Connors while dear old Donegal will be represented by Ardara girl Linda Forde. "The Kerryman". Fr. :·le Leone has got a Disco going on Sunday nights in the hall in ·Gort a Choirce and judging from reports · they have been a tremendous success•. Sheila, l1argaret, Nuala and l;aire are very pleased with them anyway. So are the boys. John Joe Curran is putting a lot of work into training young athletes in the area at the moment.
