Guth & Tuairim, Eanáir 1982

EAEiARAIJT 2 Due to ever-rising costs we were forced to raise the ~ price of your favourite monthly paper last month. ~ It was over a year since our last rise and in that ~ year inflation in our country made the continued ~ publication of "Guth 7 Tuairim" more and more difficult. ~ While JOp. seems a lot to pay for this paper it must 1: be remembered that the shopkeeper gets part of the ~ increase and that the increase must cover us not just ~ for now but for many months to come, and you can be ~ sure that costs will continue to rise every day -(and ~ the Budget has to come yet), so we hope for your ~ continued support. ~ ~ The people of Gaoth Dobhair are looking forward with interest to the election which will pick a Parish 'g~~ Council/Committee. For too long now the parish has ~·~ been without this kind of representation and has ~~ suffered as a result. Committee's have been active in e.g. Cloich Cheann Fhaola, Kincasslagh, Mullaghduff, $~1 and have achieved much. ~ Every community needs people who are willing to work i tor the betterment of the community and in Gaoth ~ Dobhair people are hoping that this will be the case :;: !lf and that the "politicians" will steer clear. Local people are very pleased with the new automatic telephone system. This latest "luxury" brings relatives and friends the world over into closer con– tact. Thousands of miles can now be spanned in a matter of seconds. Maura Byrne, Clonbara would like to say "thank you" to all the people who bought Christmas cards on be– half of the Donegal Branch of the M.S. Association. A total of £150 was raised. The Ray Country Club, better known locally as the Ray River Inn has changed hands once again and it is believed that it will be opening shortly as a dancing venue. At the height of it's popularity in the early seventies it was one of the top ballrooms in the county and people are wondering if the good old days could soon be back. While the rest of the country shivered through the recent blizzards we were fortunate enough (for once) to miss the worst of it. Apart from a few - burst and frozen pipes there was very little damage locally.
