GUTH NA NOG ScOal do phAist! - le Joaeph Corr Jnr. Upper Moyra, filgorrach. ... THE BRAVE WON'T BE BEATEN~ "lcok what Aunt Nora sent me ! " cried Cian as he pulled out a beautifUl sailing boat with red sails from the parcel he had received. "I'll take it to the pond later," he told his ~ and sister Aisling. "I got a nurse's outfit and a lovely doll !" said Aisling "I'm going to be a nurse when I grow up." "Happy Birthday Cian • • • Happy Birthday Aisling ! 11 sang ~ as she put the seven candles on their birthday cake. A proud boy was Cian when he took the boat to the pond for the first time. other children were there with their own boats, but there were none like Cian's -none had a red sail! After a little while Cian let Aisling play with it, as he left to play football with some friends. Poor Aisling hadn't the boat for long - because she'd done something silly. Aisling was crying bitterly when Cian returned. He wondered what had happened. Then he noticed that his beautiful sailing boat was gone. "Where's rrry boat? , • , where is it?" he asked. " I began to put little stones on the deck, 11 sobbed Aisling. "When it got to the middle of the pond •• it sunk•• I never meant it , • I'm sorry." 11 Cian began to quarrel with her. To tell him she was sorry was no good - not after his beautifUl boat had been sunk. They quarreled for a long while, but at last ~ got them settled, promising Cian she would buy him a new boat. Still, Cian wasn't pleased. He refUsed to speak to Aisling and she didn't speak to him, "Next morning, Mummy thought the quarrel was forgotten - but no, Aisling and Cian took'"their breakfast in silence, staring madl;r at each other. "Whatever is going to happen," said Mu!nrey' "today is their first school sports day, Never did the twins act like this before." What will happen in the wheelbarrow race?" said Daddy with a worried look. To get them to talk was fruitless. Off they went to the school sports in silence. At last, the great moment arrived - time for the sports to begin. Before the wheelbarrow race, came the Bobbin Race and Aisling won it - now that made Cian very cross. Then something happened. All the prizes were laid out on a large table, The winners were all allowed to pick their own prizes at the end of each race. Cian saw on the table a sailing boat, and it had red sails! If only he had won a race to get it, but no - Aisling had to win! Aisling didn't know what to choose from all that was on the table. It was fUll of beautifUl prizes. There was a first aid kit, dolls, a doll's house, story books and skipping ropes and a lot of other nice things. Her eyes also caught the sailing boat in the centre of the table. "What will she pick?" thought Cian to himself. Well, from all the lovely prizes she chose the sailing boat and gave it to her twin brother. Cian was the happiest boy in the world as he gratefUlly accepted the gift from his sister Aisling. And guess who won the wheelbarrow race •••••••••• "T _,~,·~ A week passed with the dustbin in this position The Dustbin. ~ · until one morning at about 7 o'clock a loud bang- house.
