Agoodnight's sleep We spend about one third ofour lives in sleep, and in the average lifetime that adds up to more than twenty years! We might be tempted to think that so much time spent sleeping is wasted. The truth is that it is a very important part oflife because during these hours a great deal ofgrowth and repair takes place in the body. Not only that, the brain is at work during sleep, performing a very vital task for good mental health by "ironing out" the stresses and strains experienced by the mind during the previous day. Howmuch sleep? The amount ofsleep needed by the individual will depend both on age and the stage ofgeneral and emotional health. Infants will need more sleep than children, and children more than adults.
