DUNGLOE 4 Health Week 1980 got off to a flying start in Dungloe with close on two hundred adults participati1;g in the Health Walk. It was certainly beyond the expectations of the Dungloe Walking Club. Secretary Charlie Boyle at a Press Conference in the Riverside Hotel gave details of the itinerary and· the awards on offer. The Health Race: After the last of the International Cyclists had crossed the white line at the official p:J_atform on Main Street, the panel of judges and chief officials retired to St. Peter's Studio where a quick decision had to be reached. A pparently, the first cyclist to cross the line was convinced that· not alone had he won that stage, but in fact won the RACE. The fact of the matter was that beside the white line in bold white letters was written THE END. enjoyable functions at Oatan na Roaann on Saturday and Sunday nights. In addition to being a tremendous success entertainment•wise it is to be hoped that financially it worked out well and that Dr. Sween~y and his able team will ensure that Dungloe Regatta will take and maintain a place in the national sporting calendar. This time it was not a question of being "saved by the bell", but rather "saved by the sailor". It appears that a Quay road chicken yard 'was visited by a fox or two during the early hours of Health Week Saturday and vere it not for the fact that a Sailor crossing the bay used his C.B. to make contact with "Rubber Duck" and "Big V" t!ie hens would have been dead ducks. The folloving morning a terrified neighbour who called herself PAHEU- complimented the BREAKERS and added · that everyone should serve in the L.D.F-. DuDilQ'e Boat Club Reptta The best thanks of the entire community goes out to the enegetic Dr. Peter Sweeney who has given the town wha~ must be regarded as one of the biggest, best and brightest veekends ever staged. Quite apart from the high degree of organisation which was evident during the events staged on the Bay, there was great efficiency shown in the running of the Tug-of-war ·- where Paddy Neily came out on top, pulling the entire Narin team through the car park to the Dungloe Arms, and the two hotel fUnctions, the. Band Parade and Recitals, not to mention the aerobatic Loch An The regatta on the lake and the tug-of-war ·in the college field vere an outstan:ling success with up to 1000 people converging on Loch an Iuir for the day. · Thankfully we were blessed with good weather and everyone enjoyed the event.s. Tug;_of-war: 1st Paddy Neily' s team, Burtonport. Ladies: Anagaire Ladies team. Loch an Iuir national school children had a very enjoyable outing to Sligo recently. Under the careful eye of their teachers they called to Lisadee House where they were shoun around and also visited other places of historical interest. This is an old custom which has been given a new lease of life. The people of Loch an Iuir together vith many other areas are delighted that the Co. Council are now providing a mobile library service on every second Monday. Three nuns of the H.M.H. from Drogheda are after spending a holiday in Loch an Iuir. They are friends of David and ~~ry Sweeney.
