THE MEENACROSS CHAPEL-- s -– A simple thing of knotted pine. It brought the brave young mother there, Surrounded by her brood, To teach them how to cast their care, Upon the Holy Rood. And corrugated tin; A fortress on_the farthest line, Against the march of sin. It watched the little orphan grow, And kept her life from harm; Though rich man's gold, In wreath and veil, it saw her go, Upon her husband's arm. Was lacking -quite, We built it strong and sure, With willing hands, and savings From pennies of the poor. spent It soothed the gray old mother's pain, Un~lined her gentle brow, It cannot fail to meet the eye, And reverent thoughts instil, For, pointing always to the sky, It stands beneath the hill. For that dear son who went astray, So many years ago. Refuge it. gave the weary heart,– From all the world's unrest; "Come ye -who labour, unto me, And I will give you rest." And when the Sunday morning's strung It's dew upon the grass, You'd see us coming, old and young, On every road, _to MaS'S. Though high and grand. No, Ladies and Gentlemen - (and he thumped his Bible) it's the Green Foell We must fight to the finish, we must never give in. The people of Northern Ireland will never listen to the Green Fool. He has already cauaed havoc in Southern Ireland, and the politicians there, they are afraid of him". Later as we drank a pint (of orange juice) in Big Ian's Ball~ena home I told my white-collared friend, "you're absolutely right, you know, this Green Fool must be stopped. He's now selling disinfectant to the pubs in Donegal. You know what that means? There wont b7 half the people dying that used to. Before you know it, there will be so many R.C's in the place you'll stick out like an Eskimo in the Sahara, Ian". "But who ll the Green Fool? 11 says my host, And that's the question everybody is asking isn't it. Just then the phone rang. "Hello Neil", says Ian. "What? ·No~ don't;. want Donegal to leave the E.M.S. to join the six counties - that's a trick to get the Green Fool up here. No way brother", and he slammed down the phone.
