---II Till: MUSIC MAl\1:12S 1- 6- . BY MAGGIE i\1AY . Enya Enjoying The Push Twenty-seven year old singer, songwriter and musician Enya Ni Bhraonain from Gweedore is enjoying the big promotion push from WEA Records with the release of her new single 'Orino– co Flow', and her album Watermark. A former keyboard player with Clannad, Dublin-based Enya composed the soundtrack music to the film "The Frog Prince', and the BBC2 series 'Celts'. This 11 track album has the haunting magic of her previous self-titled album 'Enya', and WEA feel she has the potential to enjoy international acclaim. Welcome Home Without doubt, October is the big month for fans of U2, as their new single 'Desire' enjoys the media and chart exposure. Then we have the re– lease of their double fifteen-track album 'Rattle and Hum', which boasts six new tracks. Then on October 27th, the world premiere of their movie 'Rattle and Hum'. Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam will be in Dublin for the great night, and all proceeds from the gala event are going to the ' People in Need' charity. On Tour As their single 'Bad Medicine' zooms up the charts,Bon Jovi head for the RD.S. Dublin, on Oc– tober 31st. The American heroes have been on a fifteen month sell-out world tour, with their pre– vious album 'SlipperyWhen Wet' enjoying sales of 14 million around the globe. For their Dublin gig, lead singer Jon Bon Jovi will be performing tracks from their newly issued collection 'NewJersey'. A tribute, they say, to their hometown. No Grammy Awards Dear old Gaybo introduced him as Ireland's new mega country star, but the poor former Bord na Mona worker John Hogan had a true telly dis– aster. He sang a song called 'All I Have to Offer You is Me', but sadly he had little to offer in looks, style or indeed personality. Gay informed us that he was Daniel's new rival, I say that poor John sounded and looked more of a rival to the Peat Bri– quette. On telly, an artist is a hit or a miss, and for John Hogan's 'Late Late Show', it certainly missed. An Identity Crisis During the 60s era, pop weekly NME en– joyed weekly sales in excess of 300,000 copies. Today their sales have declined to just 94, 613. Other weekly pop tabloids such as Melody Maker, Sounds etc. have declined in popularity. While glossy publications such as Smash Hits enjoy sales of 602,156 per issue. It seems that the old pop weekly publications are suffering from as severe an identity crisis and stiff competition from the daily press and the new glossy all-colour magazines. Ire- land'sglossy monthly Fresh has nowsales of 26,000, while Hot Press sales are 18,000 per issue. WALKIE TALKIES Dear old RTE schedules seem to think that talk shows will bring back lost viewers. Joining the 'Late Late Show', we have 'Kenny Live', with Pat Kenny each Saturday, and on Thursday nights 'Bibi', with Bibi Baskin. Then over on Network 2 each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, more chat with Shay Healy on 'Nighthawks'. Such chat shows make good radio, but boring 1V entertain– ment. The Pride Of The West Based in Tuam, the group Too Much for the Whiteman, are enjoying a good run with their debut single 'Put Your Mind At Ease'. The song was composed by lead singer 'Mouse' McHugh, and it made the Radio 2 playlist. Too Much for the Whiteman were featured with groups Hot House Flowers and U2 on 'The Courier' soundtrack album. The new single is issued on their own inde– pendent Black Cat label. A Donegal Music Di– rectory The Arts Organiser of the Donegal County Council is currently compiling a first 'Music Direc– tory' for the country. The booklet will cover every musical taste from rock to pop, and from folk to country, a who's who in the entertainment indus– try, and where promoters etc can contact the artists and groups. To be included in the 'Donegal Music Directory', contact The Arts Organiser, County Library. Telephone: (074) 21968. All information must be received by the end of October. Top 10 Singles 1.
