The Leader, Deireadh Fómhair 1988

After watching "Es– cape from Alcatraz'', 3rd and 4th years in Loreto Convent and St. Eunan's College have started dig– ging a tunnel from Con– vent to College. A breakthrough is expected very soon. Andy has embarked on a musical career and his new record "I want to break free" will be in the pubs..•sorry, shops short– ly. Bernie, his man– ager, bought him a new pair of braces to go with the pop star image - she even put them on him - now that's what you call a good manager. Congratulations to Caroline and Kieran who got engaged on Friday 16th September. Some of the Letterkenny and District Motor .Cycle ClubCommittee Members pictured at a Dance In the Golden Grill In 1960. Back (L. to R): Gerald McCoy, Frank Larkin, Jim Bonner, Jimmy Wilson, Dick Duffy. Front (L. to R.): George Manning, Frank Gallagher, Willie McElhinney A wee mention here for Roberta Crawford, who al– ways plays absolutely brilliant music on D.C.R. (that's a wee plug you owe us, Roberta). While we're listening to the radio, let's do a few requests. These are all for Re– gional students (mad bloody crowd they are). First of all, here's one for the neighbours - Jenny, Anne Marie and Helen, who are all very well behaved. Also for the wee Lassie in the shop who sells "The Leader", for Shei– la and all the girls in Rosemount, and for Johnnie Cur– ran, who's looking for a lift to Gweedore every Friday. Last but not least - for the Sligo girl and all at No. 49, Thorndale. As the Country Boy would say, ''there you go folks". The two Sandras in the Video shop are doing the Page 3 next month, so watch out for that boys (Must order my copy of "The Leader'', cause it could be sold out). Somebody has suggested that we do a survey on the Letterkenny Folk Festival to find out what people re– ally want in it. They make the point that a lot of young people were disappointed in this year's festival, because the organisers are all older people and therefore there were a lot more activities for the older generation. Fair point we think, so we'll be doing something on that shortly. The same reader suggests we do a survey of the discos in town, and why a lot of people leave Letter– kenny at weekends to go to other small towns to dances and discos. Anybody willing to help us with surveys, please contact "The Leader'' (but not too early in the morning). Recent "Going for a Song" winners in the 3 ways. £70 - Karen Kirwan; £25 - John James; and £5 - Breid Bonner, Drumkeen. Lucky folks. Now for a bit of bad news. Greg Devine in the Cot– tage Bar hasn't bought "The Leader''. Greg Devine never ever has seen "The Leader'', never even heard of it. As far as Greg is concerned, "The Leader'' could be a new brand of cornflakes, a Japanese sportscar, Charlie's autobiography..."Oh sweet Joseph", as Mickey Bradley would say I ODD SPELLIN.G Whisky in the Port Bar, and the Music Center at Market Square ?? ODD PHONEBOX At the Dunnes Stores roundabout. You have to go down on your knees to dial the numbers. Is this a Tele– com phonebox for people 4 foot and under? If you think I'm joking, try It out sometime (if it's working that Is. Last Sunday all 4 phoneboxes in town were out of order). Be– fore I go, here's a crap joke. What do you call Postman Pat after he loses his job ? Answer: Pat. "The Con-Man" Street games in Oldtown
