8 BALLYBOE YOUTH They've done it again ! Ballyboe Community Youth Club has provided yet another community facility. They started with a field and have succeeded in providing an all-weather pitch for ten~ nis, volleyball and basketball. The young people are delighted. Local parents feel that this new addition to the amenities of the area will prove beneficial to the town. Chairman of the Ballyboe Com– munity Youth Club, Mr. Tony Canning, said: ''This is an example of community co-operation at its best. We had people aged five to fifty working on this project. It 'started wlth a decision to paint the walls on the edge of the field, and from there it sn'owballed. As a group, we. ar~ prouq of the fact that we d_id ~.~and w,e intend to fin– ish it in October by planting trees - we are hopeful that the trees will be left to grow. · ., We had great co-operation and practical help from Mr. Colin Morrow, Town Clerk, an_d the Letterkenny Urban District Council, and we wish to ac– knowledge that help. Without it, we couldn't have donewhat we did and the area would be the poorer for that. Along with the playground pro– vided by the UDC behind Gartan Av– enue, we are now well served for our young people. With this in mind, we are in the process of carrying out a fea– sibility study into building a Community Youth Centre. we are already deeply involved in working with the people of all ages, especially our senior citizens, and we see it as a natural progression to con– tinue and expand this programme. One of our long term goals is to bridge the "generation gap" in much the same way as we bridged the Ballyboe - Glen– car gap with the construction of the Glenboe Bridge last January''.
