At 7,30 p.m. on Friday 16th April, a packed Gaoth Dobhair Com~ity Centre (Sean Teach Phobail Dhoire Beaga) applauded and cheered 10 tired ·and weary boys who had just finished playing an unbelievable lOOf hours of Indoor football. Piper John Noel Coll vas on hand to play a few tunes in honour of the boys who bad taken part in this aaratbon football match in which the two teams had scored a staggering 5,000 goals between them. The ten (+ one substitute) who are students of Pobal Scoil Gbaoth Dobhair had played 3-a-side football non-stop over 5 dars of Easter week with subs eating, resting and grabbing a few hours of much needed sleep on a rotational basia. The students planned their aarathon to draw attention to the lack of sporting facilities in their new school and decided to seek sponsorship to launch a fUnd tor the proYision of such facilities. But, the;y also decided to gift .30% ot the money to the North West Handicapped Association who are building a day-centre tor the handicapped in Dungloe and 20% to the local Youth Club. In the weeks before the aarathon, aany hours were also spent seeking sponsor-· ship, publicising the event and cleaning, fixing and preparing the Co11111uni~ Centre tor the week.
