The Lower Rosses Mr. Neil Blaney H.E.P. has informed Mr. Patrick Allen Meenmore that classes are to be started in the old Ramport School in an effort to revive the art of Barrel-making. The E.E.C. are providing a grant and tl:e instructors will be Charlie Boyle, Kentucky, Burtonport, Mickey (Kit) Boyle from Meenbanad and a man who spent all his life making barrels, Nr. Bernie Boyle (Donal), Roshire. He worked as a barrelmaker in Lerwick, Peterhead, Lowestoft and Hull. It's net the first project Mr. Allen got for Rampart.,. They've ·been building large punts there for a number of years. By the way I hear he visits the Lackenagh area very often. Pertaps he has some idea for the people there. Since the last issue Burtonport is back to full 4 Cloich Cheann Fhaola Bhi slua mor i lathair ag bronnadh na nduais6anna comortas Forbartha Pobail ar Chloich Cheann Fhaola agus Machaire Rabhartaigh i nOstan Ml!,ic PhB:id!n le gairid. Work has begun on the nev £36,000 extension to Ballyness Pier. 10 men, two cranes, a pontoon, etc. arrived on the day Maire Geoghagan-Quinn visited Falcarrach. .Next day there were no men working on the project. No doubt they were all at home recovering from the impact of Maire's visit. The pier is being extended to provide better facilities for the fishing vessels operating out of Ballyness Bay. Taan tAthair MacGrianna, s.c. Ghort a'Choirce arais Garda strength with the return of the sergeant from 3unbeg. Also, since the last issue the old scrapped lorries have been removed. Congratulations to Patrick Grady vho has succeeded yet again with his science project. His latest invention - a car that can burn turf, coal or petrol. Falcarrach Comrnunity.school have pion~ered science projects in recent years and are to be congratulated for their encouragement of students like Patrick. how dangerous they are, just ready to collapse. I hear Eddie Hicky Dan is for the Moscow Olympics after all~ It will bring back many great memories for Eddie who made the trip to Melbourne in 1956. A concert was held recently in Kincasslagh hall and Fr. Cleery was top of the bill. Top of the pops however was Pat Gallagher (Dr. O'Donnell's stable~boy) on the accordion. He brought down the house with his music and received tremendous applause. But poor Pat is always unlucky with his backing drummer - the drummer was playing golf all day with Fr. McBride at Portnoo and in the middle of l'at 1 s act he got a severe cramp in his foot leaving Pat in a terrible spot. Big Nora was killed laughing thinking the druouner was playacting. She says to Peter the painter beside her, "Doalty Sharkey done the same last year". But it was no put-on by the drummer. ·Eddie Quinn quickly took over but Pat was just halfway through t.he tune when one of the buttons stuck on the accordion. \vell you want to her Big Nora then - she had the place in an uproar. Anyway Pat eave the box one bang and away it went full swing. He played for 20 minutes to the cheering of the crowd. There was pandemonium in Burtonport one day recently when a "pet" (?) sheep went on the ...,arpath. It first attacked Mary Ward's children but fortunately husband Bernard rushed to the scene. Later on it charged Hrs. Meenan w!'lc rushed into the pub followed by the sheep 1;ho .had to be expelled by customers. Just then Kitty vonnaghan was pulling in to the Cope on her bike. The fourlegged menace gave chase and ~itty made it inside bike and all. The sheep kept coming and she threw the bike at him. By now it was tossing goods off the stands but Packie would have none of it and he threw the villian out and got Pat Crean to escort him back to its owner. "The Listener". During the last week two loads of rubbish have been dumped on to the strand at Ballyness and another one over the Pier wall. Unauthorized dumping is getting too common in the area and the Falcarrach traders with the exception of Michael Sweeney, Seamas McGee and Joe Mc~uaid are not showing a great example. Apart from those three the others take rubbish to the Muckish dump in open trailer~ leaving a trail of litter along the way. Where is their civic spirit and pride. Or are we to remain labelled "the dirty Irish". Nionn muid comhghairdeachas le Sean agus Sheila Gallagher as Cluanbaire an Fhalcarrach a bhf 50 blein posta le gairid.
